The Goal

Improve the boiler's fuel economy and cut the energy needed to make steam. The scope covered a new Burner Management System (BMS), fuel train inlet, burner, and combustion air system. We also added an economizer that captures waste heat from the flue gas to preheat the boiler feedwater, so the boiler burns less fuel for the same steam output.

What Our Crew Delivered

  • Removed and modified the existing stack.
  • Installed pilings and structural steel to support the economizer.
  • Fabricated and tested new boiler feedwater (BFW) piping, fuel gas piping, and boiler trim.
  • Scaffolded for roof removal and equipment installation.
  • Set and installed the economizer.
  • Demolished and replaced the combustion air and burner system, BFW system, and fuel train.

The Results

  • Zero Harm to anyone or anything.

  • Delivered on budget, despite roughly 15% added scope during execution.

  • Zero leaks at startup.

  • Tight scheduling across all parties kept downtime to a minimum.

  • A happy client, who has already proposed the same scope for their second boiler.
